About Mineshire

What Mineshire is, what it does, and what it leaves alone. The same facts are in plain text at /llms.txt for anything that reads the site automatically.

What Mineshire is

Mineshire is a free app that sets up and runs Minecraft servers on your own computer. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. You pick the server software and a version, press Create, and Mineshire installs it. Then you hit Start.

It’s made for people who’ve never run a server, so the labels are in plain words. The server’s files and its server.properties are still in the app, for anyone who’d rather edit them by hand.

What it can install

There are 13 kinds of server software to choose from, and the version lists come from each project’s own website. Java is handled for you: Mineshire downloads a Temurin build from Adoptium for whichever Java your Minecraft version needs.

What it does once a server exists

Start, stop and restart the server, with the console, the players, and processor and memory use in view.

Search Modrinth and CurseForge for plugins and mods and install them from inside the app.

Back up a server by hand or on a schedule, and send backups to your Google Drive. Scheduled backups only run while Mineshire is open, and they skip a server that’s still running.

Let friends join. People on the same Wi-Fi use the home-network address. Anyone else can join through a tunnel you switch on in the Network tab, which runs on playit.gg.

Start a crashed server again by itself, up to three times in ten minutes.

Keep running in the system tray or menu bar when you close the window.

Change a server’s Minecraft version later. Mineshire checks your plugins or mods first.

Import a server you already have from its folder or a zip.

What it isn’t

Mineshire isn’t a hosting company. Your servers run on your own computer, so they’re reachable while that computer and the server are on.

It isn’t server software either. Paper, Fabric, Forge and the others are made by their own projects, and Mineshire installs and manages them.

And it isn’t from Mojang. It’s an independent project with no connection to Mojang or Microsoft. Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang.

Who makes it

Mineshire is made by LogicByte Studios. Questions and bug reports go to the Discord, and the changelog lists every release with what changed.

Signing in is optional. If you do it, your server list (names, software, versions and icons) syncs to your account. Console logs leave your computer only when you press Share. The Privacy page has the full list.
